A Young, Low-density Stellar Stream in the Milky Way Disk: Theia 456

چکیده

Abstract Our view of the variety stellar structures pervading local Milky Way has been transformed by application clustering algorithms to Gaia catalog. In particular, several streams have recently discovered that are comprised hundreds thousands stars and span hundred parsecs. We analyze one such structure, Theia 456, a low-density stream extending nearly 200 pc 20° across sky. By supplementing astrometric data with spectroscopic metallicities from Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope photometric rotation periods Zwicky Transient Facility Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite, we establish 456's radial velocity coherence, find strong evidence members 456 common age (≃175 Myr), dynamical origin, formed chemically homogeneous prestellar material ([Fe/H] = −0.07 dex). Unlike well-known in Way, which its halo, is firmly part thin disk. If our conclusions about can be applied even small fraction remaining ≃8300 independent catalog, may ubiquitous. comment on implications this for nature star formation throughout Galaxy.

Phase Models of the Milky Way Stellar Disk

A new iterative method for constructing the self-consistent phase equilibrium models of stellar systems with a fixed mass density distribution is used for constructing the Milky Way Galaxy disk model. In this method, we use the density distribution in the Galaxy as input data. Here we used two Galactic density models (suggested by Flynn, Sommer-Larsen & Christensen 1996; Dehnen & Binney 1998a)....

MaGICC Thick Disk I: Comparing a Simulated Disk Formed with Stellar Feedback to the Milky Way

We analyse the structure and chemical enrichment of a Milky Way-like galaxy with a stellar mass of 2 × 1010 M, formed in a cosmological hydrodynamical simulation. It is disc dominated with a flat rotation curve, and has a disc scalelength similar to the Milky Way’s, but a velocity dispersion that is ̃50 per cent higher. Examining stars in narrow [Fe/H] and [/Fe] abundance ranges, we find rema...

The Milky Way ’ s stellar disk Mapping and modeling the Galactic disk

A suite of vast stellar surveys mapping the Milky Way, culminating in the Gaia mission, is revolutionizing the empirical information about the distribution and properties of stars in the Galactic stellar disk. We review and lay out what analysis and modeling machinery needs to be in place to test mechanism of disk galaxy evolution and to stringently constrain the Galactic gravitational potentia...

The Dark Disk of the Milky Way

Massive satellite accretions onto early galactic disks can lead to the deposition of dark matter in disk-like configurations that co-rotate with the galaxy. This phenomenon has potentially dramatic consequences for dark matter detection experiments. We utilize focused, high-resolution simulations of accretion events onto disks designed to be Galaxy analogues, and compare the resultant disks to ...

The Formation of the Milky Way Disk

We present theoretical results on the galactic abundance gradients of several chemical species for the Milky Way disk, obtained using an improved version of the two-infall model of Chiappini, Matteucci, & Gratton (1997) that incorporates a more realistic model of the galactic halo and disk. This improved model provides a satisfactory fit to the elemental abundance gradients as inferred from the...
